Misty right after surgery 11/9/11
Nev called at lunch to say that one of the animal control guys at Madison Co. had called to say there was a dog just brought in with a badly broken leg. They said she was in pain and could we help. Big thank you to Madison Co. AC for calling us. So it was decided Nev would go take a look to see how bad it was and if we could help. One look later and they were on their way to Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital for help. Nev texted me and asked if I was shocked that she took her. Yea, right. I already knew she would take her. Nev said she was in pretty bad pain even though they had given her some pain meds at AC. She was drooling and very uncomfortable. When they were at the vet the dog sat down and her leg back leg that was dangling about went out at a ninety degree angle. Ouch! After a few xrays Dr. Ervin felt he could fix the leg. He said it was broken in two places but the breaks were pretty good. He thought if he put an external something or other in her leg it would work. So off she went to surgery. Dr. E felt the surgery was a success and she should do well. Way to go Dr. E!! Misty will spend the night at HSL with some really good pain drugs and then hopefully to a foster for recovery. The hardware has to stay on her leg for 6 to 8 weeks. She has to stay pretty immobile to help with the healing. It is always amazing to me when you get a dog like this that is in such terrible pain and has had such a terrible trauma that they don't try to bite even though they have every right to. It is also amazing that they always know who rescued them and will always be happy to see that person. Lucky girl today. Lucky us to get to help her.
