Fur Ball This Saturday!!

The third annual Fur Ball to benefit the rescues with P4P will be this Saturday, April 16 at 7:00 PM at the Collinsville VFW.  Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased ahead by calling 618-540-PETS (7387) or at the door.  The delicious chicken dinner is provided by Ravanellis restaurant in Collinsville. The band playing is "Walk On".  There will be a silent auction, 50/50 drawing and the raffle for the cruise.  The cruise is for 2 people for 7 days with Holland America.  There is no time limit and many destinations to choose from.  Raffle tickets for the cruise are $10.00. Please come and help the animals at our shelter.

Weekly Update

The first full week of April was off to a good start.  The spay/neuter clinic did 61 surgeries.  Many of these surgeries were for other rescue groups who we are happy to help.  We are also working with SNIP and SPAY, IL to provide low cost spay and neuters to the public that may not be able to have the surgery otherwise.  We are still working on getting the word out to the public.  We have several ads out in the newspapers.  There are brochures available for the clinic at the shelter and it would help if they were distributed.  Pick up a few to give to co-workers, friends and family.
Adoptions were a little slow.  The great weather usually means a slow down.  Not quite sure why but it is always the case.  It's funny we do more adoptions in a snow storm.  We did do 13 adoptions though.  Gizmo, Daisy, Chloe, Dessie, Target, Cena, Rory, Sterno and JoJo were the lucky pooches that got a new home.  Osteena, Aleka, Dorian, and Gus were the lucky kitties.  This week is the first week for our new Director, Mary Parker, at the shelter.  Please stop by to say hello and welcome her at the shelter.

Please Vote!! We could win $300,000.00

Each day you can vote at the Animal Rescue Site for Partners For Pets to win $300,000.00.  Go to the link below, spell out "partners for pets" under Collinsville, IL and vote each day. It is pretty easy to do and we could make a huge difference in alot of animals lives.  Thanks!

Patsy

I don't know who looks happier!  Our little 14 year old Patsy is very happy in her new home.  She is doing well they report and is feeling much better.  She loves to go on walks and is enjoying some steak along with her wet food.  Patsy had to have many teeth pulled before she was adopted.  They were a mess.  She has perked right up and has a spring in her step.  Doesn't she look cute with her puppy cut.  Many thanks to the Travers for giving Patsy a new life.

New Shelter Director

On Monday, April 11, Mary Parker will become the new Director at the Collinsville Shelter.  The last two months has seen an increase in donations and support.  If P4P is to continue, a full time Director was needed to make sure P4P moved forward.  Mary has been a long time volunteer, is very dedicated to P4P, knows how we work, is a hard worker and no stranger to fund raising.  She is great with the animals and is not afraid to jump right in and get dirty.  Everyone is thrilled to have her and we all wish her the best!

Karen Rocks-Literally!!

Several weeks ago after much work and persistence, our volunteer Karen Wells got the City to put rock around the outside exercise fence so the dogs could have a yard to play in.  When the fence was put in there were many gaps so that it needed the rock to make sure no one could escape.  Karen worked with the City and the fence is done!! Now the dogs are really enjoying a good run and love it.  The staff and volunteers are enjoying the new fence too.  They can take the dogs out to play, let them run off some energy and enjoy the outside air.  Thanks so much to Karen for her help with getting the rocks for the fence.

Euthanasia Rates at Collinsville Shelter

Since P4P took over the adoption program on Sept. 1 at WBAS, the euthanasia rate has gone from 67%-(that's 67 dogs and cats euthanized out of 100 dogs and cats) to 4.6%.  Since Sept. 1, AC euthanized 20 dogs and cats out of 434 animals taken in.  The 20 included owner requests, severely injured animals, and severely aggressive animals. The same time frame a year ago would have seen 291 animals euthanized.  In February, there were no animals euthanized at the Collinsville shelter.  In March, there was one-an owner request.  P4P has taken every adoptable animal Collinsville has taken in and continues to pull from other animal control facilities as well. The staff and volunteers have worked so hard to find new homes, foster homes and transfers for these rescues.  Good job guys!!
