Partners For Pets Update-Aug. 30, 2015

SHELTER UPDATE AUG. 2015

Dear All,  I am going to start working on the Blog again to try to keep everyone up to date.  It has been very busy here the last 10 months working on the new shelter and trying to get that up and running.  We have also had so many sick and injured animals here it has been hard keeping up with that and making sure they are well.  But I think it is important for everyone to know how things are going and what we have in the works.  So here goes!

We have had many disasters in the last 10 months.  There has been Petey aka Jack, who was dragged by a car and had some terrible wounds to his back and feet. After several months of care I am glad to say he is doing wonderful and has been adopted by Kathleen who adores him.  Petey was the welcoming committee and we miss his cute little face but are so happy for his new life. Mathilda had to have an emergency C section and then the babies had to be bottle fed.  Piglet was the only one of 3 that made it and both the pup and Mom were adopted.  Matheny had to have several weird growths removed from his nose and was finally just adopted.  We have had numerous broken legs and fractured pelvis's.  Lazarus, the kitty, was severely injured by a blow to the head.  He was one I wasn't sure we were doing him a favor but Dr. Ervin kept saying one more day and after months of care he is doing great.

Petey aka Jack-love that face!

Some of our current rescues are Bianca who was found at the pound with mats so severe they were cutting off circulation to her legs.  It caused huge wounds to the bone but they are healing and she is doing fine.  Dixon was a matted mess but is looking fine now.  Ashlyn was in a house explosion and had burns to her ears, nose and eyes.  While she did lose part of her ears they are almost healed and there is no permanent injury to her eyes.  She is a beauty and so happy.  Cookie had large bladder stones that had to be removed but he is on the mend.  Miss Ellie Crinkles was almost bald but looks beautiful now.  It is amazing how injured or sick some of the animals we get in are.  They are always so appreciative of the care and seem to know you are trying so hard to help them.  Our shelter staff and volunteers are wonderful and do everything they can to make them well.  The foster homes are also so important to help them heal.

I know it seems like we have a lot of events and fund raisers.  We do.  Sometimes I look at the FB page and all I see are fund raisers and I'm sure people are wondering where are all the animals. Hopefully, we can make a few changes to not bombard people all the time.  What you may not know though is that we count on these fund raisers to take care of all of the animals we take in.  Partners works very hard for every penny we take in so we can.  Our vet bills are always huge but it is because we always take the sick and injured dogs and cats.  Many times it is their only ticket out of the pound. If we don't raise the funds then we can't take them and help them.  So your help, support and donations are very appreciated and you are making a huge difference for the animals.

Some of our events coming up are Hawgs for Dogs which is Sept. 13 and Cosmic Bingo Sept. 18. We also have a raffle for a 55 inch TV to raise funds to care for the animals at the shelter.  You can sign up or get more information on our web site or on Facebook.  If you can't come please share with your friends.  We happily accept donations too!

The new shelter is coming along.  Todd and crew are working hard and could always use some help. The cat area is almost finished and we hope to move the kitties there soon.  The cats will be in shock as they are going from a room the size of a shed (and not even that wide) to a large room and a sun room.  It will be amazing.  The dog area will not be ready for some time and is dependent on the funds we can raise to finish the project.

New cat room.

Thank you for all you do for the animals at our shelter!

Bianca's Rescue

A little black and white shih was sitting at the pound with seriously matted legs. No one could tell there were any problems except she needed a good grooming. When Nev went in to pick her up the smell was awful.  When Nev dropped the other dogs off at our shelter that she had pulled from the pound she got the little dog out to show me.  The smell was like rotting meat.  The mats were hard and encased her legs.  There was no way to tell what was under the mats and it probably wasn't going to be pretty. What was very strange was that the top part of her was pretty clean and appeared groomed.  From the belly down was hard, dirty mats.  You could tell she was in terrible pain but she never tried to bite.

Bianca and a new friend
Bianca was taken directly to Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital where they went to work on her. Dr. Randla was afraid the mats had acted like a tourniquet and was very worried that the leg or legs were rotting.  Slowly but surely they worked on her and got the mats off.  Two of her legs had large sores to the bone.  She wouldn't or couldn't use her back leg and it was iffy if that leg was going to be saved.  Bianca began to get cold laser therapy and antibiotics.  After a few days she began to use the leg and Dr. Randla was thinking the leg would be fine.  She was discharged to a foster home where she had her very own vet tech taking care of her.   Talk about a miracle!   Her legs are fine.  the wounds are almost healed.

Partners For Pets can rescue animals like Bianca only with your help.  You can make a huge difference to these animals with a donation, fostering or adopting.  It seems every week we get a dog or cat in terrible shape that needs our help.  If you would like to make a difference in Bianca's life and help with her care you can go to our PayPal address partners_for_pets@yahoo.com and make a donation.  You can also mail a donation to Partners For Pets, PO Box 445, Troy, IL 62294.  Thank you!!
